Review: 2024 Honda Civic Compact Car Excellence

There are many reasons why the 2024 Honda Civic lineup is our top choice for compact cars. With its cool and well made interior and powerful turbo engine the Honda Civic displays compact car excellence. Add in the iconic Type R model, the Civic far surpasses its competitors. It even offers a Hybrid model for those who prioritize fuel economy. The Civic sedan and hatchback also boast great aesthetics and a modern interior.

Starting with the interior and technology, even the base Sport trim level of the 2024 Civic impresses with its tasteful design and high quality materials. Although there are some areas with hard plastic, the overall look and feel of the cabin are premium. The full width honeycomb air vents add a special touch that sets the Civic apart from its competitors. Two infotainment systems are available, with the larger 9-inch unit found in higher trims offering more functionality and a competitive user interface. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and Honda has maintained physical shortcut buttons for ease of use.

Passenger and cargo space:

The 2024 Civic sedan and hatchback offer ample room. The sedan is longer, resulting in a larger trunk compared to the hatchback. Surprisingly, the sedan can hold more luggage than the hatchback despite having less cargo volume on paper. The hatchback, however, provides greater versatility when the seats are folded down, offering a space similar to that of a subcompact SUV. Additionally, both body styles provide generous rear legroom, with the Civic having the most in its segment. Even tall adults can sit comfortably in the back, and there is still enough room in the front passenger seat when a rear facing child seat is installed.

Fuel economy and performance:

The Civic offers a choice of four engines. The base Sport trim is powered by a 2.0-liter inline four engine, producing 158 hp.
Fuel economy is respectable, with the sedan achieving 13 l/km city, 17 l/km highway.
The EX and Touring trims, as well as the Sport Touring hatchback, are equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo inline four engine that delivers 180 hp. This engine provides better performance and fuel efficiency, with the sedan achieving 14 l/km city, 18 l/km highway.

The Civic Si model has a more powerful 1.5 liter turbo engine, producing 200 hp. It offers excellent fuel economy for a performance car at 11.5 l/km city, 15.5 l/km highway.
The range topping Type R model boasts a 2.0 liter turbo engine that generates 315 hp.

Safety features:

Include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Overall, the Honda Civic is compact car excellence, the lineup offers a compelling package with its cool and well made interior, spaciousness, powerful turbo engine options, and well-balanced driving dynamics. It continues to be the top choice for compact cars, offering versatility, style, and performance. Whether you choose the sedan or the hatchback, the Civic is a standout choice in its segment.
