Comparing the 2023 Nissan Z and 2023 Toyota GR Supra

On the other hand, the Toyota GR Supra 3.0 MT emerges as the clear winner of the two. Settling into the Supra’s cabin takes some adjustment, but once on the road, its performance is captivating. The 382-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine, borrowed from BMW, offers a smooth power delivery, a sonorous engine note, and a pure power band. Toyota has improved upon the sound of the engine, giving it a cleaner, louder, and more pleasing tone compared to BMW.

The addition of a notchy, short-throw six-speed manual transmission for the 2023 model year enhances the Supra’s appeal. Toyota has transformed the BMW manual transmission into an example of how a proper sports car transmission should feel, with tight, clear gates and light action. The Supra’s chassis is also engaging, with its rear wheels squirming beneath you as the front end dives into corners. The car’s faster and more accurate steering rack outshines the Z, providing a greater sense of connection to the road.

The Supra’s well-shaped and supportive seats, along with its short-diameter steering wheel, contribute to the overall driving experience. Despite a few drawbacks, such as the limited wireless Apple CarPlay and the outdated infotainment system, the Supra’s performance and driving dynamics make it the clear choice in this comparison.

In conclusion, while both the 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 and the 2023 Nissan Z Performance have their merits, the Supra ultimately outshines the Z in terms of overall performance, driver satisfaction, and driving dynamics. The Supra’s engine, transmission, chassis, and steering all contribute to an exceptional driving experience that solidifies its position as the top contender in the attainable two-seat Japanese sports car segment.
