2024 Jeep Wrangler Review: Enhanced Comfort with Unparalleled Capability

Jeep has undergone several transformations over the years. With each generation of the Wrangler aiming to enhance both its capability and comfort. The 2024 Jeep Wrangler is a significant update to the previous JL model. Featuring revised trims, powertrains, and the introduction of the most luxurious interior in Wrangler history. These changes are intended to keep Jeep ahead of its competitors and provide customers with the best product possible. However, these improvements come at a higher cost, read on to see of this will come out as one of the top Suv models for Cambodian roads

One of the most notable upgrades for the 2024 Jeep Wrangler is its interior. The previous model had a chunky and playful design, whereas the new version is more refined. Each trim level offers unique highlights and materials, including cloth and a combination of faux and real leather. Notably, side curtain airbags are now standard, whereas they were previously only available as an option.
The most significant change inside the cabin is the addition of a 12.3-inch touchscreen, which is now standard across all trim levels. The touchscreen runs on the latest Android-based Uconnect software, featuring large icons that are easy to navigate, quick performance, and over the air updates to ensure it remains up to date. The Wrangler also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Alexa Home to Car integration.
The touchscreen also incorporates a new Trails Offroad application, which comes preloaded with hundreds of adventure guides to help users find and navigate trails throughout the United States. The application provides route descriptions, difficulty ratings, waypoints, obstacles, and points of interest, making it easier for owners to choose the trails that suit their preferences. Should the preloaded guides not suffice, owners can create their own routes using the software. A premium subscription unlocks access to over 3,000 maps. The Trails Offroad app seamlessly integrates with the infotainment and mapping technology, offering Jeep owners a user-friendly tool to find places to explore.

A Trim for All Occasions:

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler lineup consists of various trims, each offering different levels of equipment and features. The base Sport model is the entry-level option, followed by the Sport S, which adds some additional equipment. For the new model year, the Willy’s trim has been upgraded to include off-road goodies that were previously reserved for the Rubicon model and its counterparts. The Sahara and High Altitude trims are more street-oriented, offering higher levels of equipment compared to the other models.
The Rubicon remains the popular choice for off-road enthusiasts, while the Rubicon X is a new addition to the lineup for 2024. The Rubicon X combines the best off-road features with luxury elements, creating a comprehensive package for customers who want the best of both worlds. Finally, there’s the Wrangler Rubicon 392, which is an absolute powerhouse. It is equipped with a 6.4-liter V8 engine producing 470 hp. Paired with a heavy-duty eight-speed automatic transmission, the Wrangler Rubicon 392 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and covers the quarter-mile in 13 seconds.
The Xtreme 35 package, which includes 35 inch tires and a small lift, is standard for the Rubicon 392, enhancing its off road capabilities. The vehicle’s height gives it a commanding presence on the road, but the steering on all Wranglers can be imprecise, mainly at higher speeds. However, the 392’s performance is exhilarating, making it feel like a muscle car on stilts.

Engine and Powertrain Options:

While the Wrangler Rubicon 392 is a standout, most buyers will opt for one of the more mainstream powertrains. The plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe offers an appealing balance between power and efficiency. With a total output of 375 hp from its electric motors and a 17.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Wrangler 4xe provides an estimated electric range of 21 miles. During testing, this figure was found to be accurate on average. While the electric range may not be sufficient for a full day of driving, the Wrangler 4xe’s hybrid system contributes to a more fuel efficient driving experience, resulting in lower fuel costs for owners.
The Wrangler 4xe also boasts 470 pound-feet of torque, which is comparable to the V8 powered Rubicon 392. Another engine option is the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6, which produces 285 horsepower and remains a popular choice. It is also the only engine available with a six-speed manual transmission. The 2.0 liter turbo engine with 270 hp, is another option. This offers a slight increase in performance and efficiency compared to the base V6. However, it doesn’t provide a significant upgrade in terms of performance.

Extensive Offroad Capabilities:

The Wrangler offers a variety of four wheel drive systems to suit different off road needs.
The Command Trac system, available on all trims, features 2WD High, 4WD High, and 4WD Low modes. When in Low mode, it delivers a crawl ratio of 2.72:1. The Selec Trac system, standard on the Rubicon 392 and optional on the Sport and Sahara trims, adds a 4WD Auto mode for full time use regardless of the driving surface. The Rubicon’s Rock Trac system provides a 4.0:1 Low range, resulting in a crawl ratio as low as 100:1 with the appropriate packages.
These transfer cases are operated using manual levers next to the floor mounted shifter, providing a traditional and reliable method. The Rubicon is the only model equipped with an electronic front locker. For 2024 a full float Dana 44 rear axle is now available as an option. The full float rear axle allows for larger wheel and tire options and increases the Rubicon’s towing capacity to 5,000 pounds.

A More Comfortable Ride:

On-road performance has always been a weaker aspect for the Wrangler due to its off-road-oriented design. Regardless of the trim level, the Wrangler’s steering can feel vague at high speeds and lacks feedback. However, during a test drive of the Wrangler High Altitude 4xe, it was found to be a more relaxed and comfortable experience than expected. The Sky One Touch Power Top, standard on the High Altitude trim, provides an open top experience while minimizing wind noise. The power leather seats are also supportive and comfortable. The 20 inch wheels with 275/55R20 General Grabber tires contribute to a smoother ride compared to the more rugged Rubicon trim. The Wrangler High Altitude 4xe features seats that are sealed, allowing for water fording up to 34 inches.

While the Wrangler performs well on paved roads, it truly excels in off road conditions, as expected. This is where the Rubicon and Rubicon X models shine. With a ground clearance of 10.8 inches, or even 12.9 inches with 35-inch tires, the Rubicon offers impressive capabilities. The Xtreme 35 package further enhances the approach and breakover angles, enabling the vehicle to tackle more challenging terrains. Additionally, the Wrangler Rubicon offers various rugged features and components, such as electronically controlled front and rear lockers, Dana axles, and a specialized transfer case.
These features, combined with the Rubicon’s off road focus, make it a top SUV models for Cambodian Roads.

Final Thoughts:

In conclusion, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler is a significant improvement over its predecessors. The updates made to the interior, powertrains, and off road capabilities make it more appealing than ever before. While the Wrangler still has some areas for improvement in terms of on-road performance and steering precision, it remains a formidable off road vehicle that excels in challenging terrains.
Whether customers choose the base Sport, luxurious High Altitude, or high performance Rubicon 392, there’s a Wrangler for everyone. With its rich history and continuous innovation, the Wrangler maintains its position as one of the most iconic models. A Top SUV Models for Cambodian Roads on the market.
