2024 Toyota Highlander L Trim Level Retired

The 2024 Toyota Highlander is now offering a Nightshade Edition on the LE and XLE trims of the Highlander Hybrid, making it the 10th model in Toyota’s lineup to feature this blackout package.
This special cosmetic package replaces the Bronze Edition. In addition, the base trim of the Highlander, L Trim Level will be retired from the non-electrified lineup.
Compared to 2023, the LE has increased by $100, and the absence of a trim below has caused the entry price to rise by $2,500. The prices for the gas-only and hybrid lineups, after including the destination charge and comparing them to last year, are as follows

Going Over to the Dark Side

Both the LE and XLE Nightshade Editions include various black accessories such as the grille, mirror caps, door handles, shark fin antenna, rear spoiler, rear badging, and black, five-spoke, 18-inch wheels. The XLE also comes with black roof rails as standard equipment. Inside the LE Nightshade, there are black fabric seats, while the XLE Nightshade features black SofTex-trimmed seats with fabric inserts and silver stitching.

The Nightshade models are available in Cement, Midnight Black Metallic, Ruby Flare Pearl, and Wind Chill Pearl exterior colors. However, it is unclear if the two-tone color options offered for the Corolla Hybrid Nightshade or RAV4 Woodland Edition are available for the Highlander Nightshade models.

In terms of equipment, the XLE and XSE now include a standard hands-free power liftgate, a feature that was previously reserved for the Limited and Platinum trims.

No Changes to the Powertrains

They consist of a turbo charged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 265 hp, or a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine combined with two electric motors to generate a total of 243 hp. The hybrid powertrain may have fewer horses, but it offers significantly better fuel efficiency, with an EPA-rated 15.3 km/l combined compared to the gas-only Highlander’s 10.6 km/l combined. However, the 2.4-liter engine has a towing capacity of up to 2200kg, whereas the Hybrid can only tow up to 1600kg.
