Honda to Unveil Unique Sports Concept at Japan Show: Could it be the NSX or S2000?

The Japan Mobility Show, previously known as the Tokyo Motor Show, is set to commence in less than a month. Honda, is expected to Unveil Unique Sports Concept with three world premieres of new products. The lineup promises a diverse range of offerings and an abundance of attractions. Our main attraction will be the introduction of the Honda Specialty Sports Concept, an electric sports car that aims to provide drivers with an unparalleled driving experience, free from the constraints of time. The speculation surrounding this vehicle has already begun, with suggestions ranging from a revamped NSX to a reborn Honda S2000.

Honda’s grand plan for electrification:

The image provided above is from 2022 and was released when Honda revealed its grand-scale plans for electrification. These plans involve phasing out internal-combustion powertrains by 2040. We can’t confirm if the teaser image has any connection to the models to be unveiled in Japan next month. What we do know is that Honda’s CEO, Toshihiro Mibe, announced last year that the company intends to introduce two electric sports cars to the market before the end of the decade. One of these models will be a “specialty” vehicle, while the other will serve as a “flagship” model. Both the S2000 and NSX align with this description.

Supporters of the S2000 theory point out that Honda initially introduced the S2000 as a tribute to the automaker’s 50th anniversary. Coincidentally, this year marks Honda’s 75th anniversary. Additionally, the S2000 prototype made its debut at the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show under the name “Sport Study Model” (SSM). On the other hand, proponents of the NSX theory refer to Acura’s recent release of the Performance Electric Vision Design Study. This showcased design cues reminiscent of a futuristic NSX. It should be noted, however, that the NSX has historically been unveiled in the United States. The original premiere was at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show and later being showcased at the Detroit Auto Show.

The Honda Exhibit:

Visitors to Honda’s exhibit will also have the opportunity to explore smaller offerings such as the Sustainia-C Concept. Resembling a miniaturized version of the Honda-e, this vehicle features body panels constructed from recycled acrylic resin. Another four-wheeled attraction is the CI-MEV, colloquially known as a “pod car.” It incorporates Honda’s cooperative intelligence (represented by the “CI” in the name) and autonomous driving technology, providing easily accessible last-mile mobility. The CI-MEV caters to individuals who may face mobility limitations, such as those residing in areas without public transportation options or individuals with difficulty travelling long distances on foot.

Motorcycle enthusiasts will be delighted by the presence of the SC e: Concept. This electric is scooter powered by two of Honda’s swappable Mobile Power Pack e: batteries. Additionally, attendees who are interested in unconventional modes of transportation will have the opportunity to explore a life size interior mockup of the HondaJet Elite II light business jet. There will also be a gas turbine engine intended for vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

The Honda Avatar Robot will also be showcased, building upon the advancements made by Honda’s ASIMO robot. This remote controlled automaton allows users to perform tasks and experience events from a remote location.
The Avatar Robot features a distinctive “multi fingered robotic hand,” leaving us to ponder the potential applications. Imagine a device capable of executing 6,000 keystrokes per second through its thirty digits. In a few weeks’ time, we will have the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into these innovative products and more at the Japan Mobility Show.
