In addition to the Montero/Pajero and the Lancer Evo, Mitsubishi’s famous Delica model has gained recognition over the years. This minivan possesses impressive off road capabilities and has consistently demonstrated this feature. Recently, at the Japan Mobility Show, the Mitsubishi D:X Concept was revelaed, which represents the brand’s vision for the future of versatile vans.
The appearance of the Mitsubishi D:X Concept resembles a bulked up version of the VW I.D. Buzz, with its robust and aggressive design accentuated by over sized tires. The Delica line has always adhered to the single box shape, ensuring maximum interior space. Notably, the D:X Concept incorporates laser headlights. These vertical sections of the headlights are capable of projecting lines to provide drivers with a sense of the vehicle’s width in challenging nighttime maneuvers.
Fully Adjustable Three Row Seating:
The inside of the D:X Concept is equipped with three rows of seats that can be adjusted and rotated to allow for various layouts. Noteworthy is the absence of a conventional dashboard, as well as any front facing elements in the traditional dashboard position. Instead, a glass panel covers the area where the grille would typically be found, and a large screen displays a live feed of the terrain ahead and underneath the vehicle. This design choice significantly enhances forward visibility, which is especially advantageous for off road driving. The driver is presented with a small dashboard located ahead of the steering wheel, blending seamlessly into the door, which provides essential instrumentation. Additionally, occupants can enjoy an audio system fine tuned by Yamaha.
Mitsubishi did not provide extensive details about the powertrain of the D:X Concept. Although, it is confirmed to be a plug-in hybrid, similar to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
This configuration ensures that the Mitsubishi D:X Concept remains an all wheel drive vehicle, aligning with the expectations for a Delica model.
Mitsubishi has not shared specific plans for production. It is however, highly anticipated that a new Delica model inspired by the D:X Concept will be released. However, some features, such as the dashboard free interior, may not be carried over to the production version.
