Max Verstappen’s Clinches Record-Breaking 16th Victory

In the Mexico City Grand Prix, Max Verstappen made a brilliant move at the start to take the lead from Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz and went on to claim his record-breaking 16th Victory this season in Formula One.

The Red Bull driver, who has already secured the championship title for the third consecutive year, not only secured his third consecutive win at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez but also surpassed his own record for season victories set last year.

Similar to his win in 2021, Verstappen started from the third position and managed to overtake the Ferraris on the first corner using his quick reflexes. He navigated his way through the gap between the two cars and took the lead.

However, the race was momentarily stopped and had to be restarted due to a major crash involving Haas driver Kevin Magnussen. Verstappen handled the restart flawlessly and maintained his lead throughout the race.

With his 51st career win, the Dutch driver has now tied with Alain Prost for the fourth-most wins in the history of Formula One. Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes driver, holds the record with 103 victories.

Hamilton finished in second place in Sunday’s race, while Leclerc secured the third spot on the podium.

Leclerc, who had started from pole, once again failed to convert it into a win. Out of the 22 times he has started from pole position, Leclerc has only managed to win four times.

Unfortunately, Sergio Perez, the hometown favorite, had a short-lived race. Peres is currently fighting to maintain second position in the championship.  He was involved in a collision with Leclerc at the first corner, resulting in his car flipping in the air.

The crash silenced the enormous crowd that had been cheering for Perez vigorously throughout the weekend. Many spectators left after the crash which had a significant impact on the championship battle. This DNF reducing Perez’s lead from 39 points to just 20 with three races remaining.

Perez however, hasn’t won a race since April and no podium in the last five races. Embarrassing to think Max has a Record-Breaking 16th Victory.
