2025 VW ID.7: A New EV Sedan in an SUV Dominated Market

Volkswagen used to have many different types of flagship vehicles, but the company has now shifted its focus to electric cars. The 2025 VW ID.7 is the first electric sedan designed to provide an alternative to the Passat and Arteon. The sedan is also larger and more spacious than it may appear. Equipped with an 82 kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery, the ID.7 boasts a range of about 600 kilometers. The model is built on the MEB platform and features a new electric motor called AP550. This is makes it the most powerful motor in Volkswagen’s lineup at 282 HP.

Distinctive Exterior Features:

The exterior of the ID.7 features sharp looking headlights, a distinctive arch shaped roof line, and a rear light bar. Despite its large size, the sedan’s extensive wheelbase and interior space make it surprisingly spacious and comfortable. It also boasts a large trunk with 18.8 cubic feet of storage space. As always it is expandable by folding down the rear bench seats to to 56 cubic feet. The sedan’s ride is characterized by comfort and smoothness, qualities that are enhanced by the standard steel suspension system and Volkswagen’s adaptive damping technology.

The ID.7 is capable of gliding for long distances while providing a relatively flat cornering experience. The EV incorporates a brake energy recuperation function, giving it a slightly odd brake pedal feel. We should note this being quite common in many electric cars. However, it lacks the ability to choose from different levels of regeneration, which is a feature found in some other electric vehicles. The model is also equipped with a head-up display offering augmented reality (AR) features that enhance the driver’s experience.
Despite its many innovative features, the ID.7’s smart air vents, controlled by a menu in a 15-inch touchscreen, have received mixed reviews for their intuitive use.

Overall, the Volkswagen ID.7 seeks to redefine the brand’s definition of “flagship model”. Achieving this by offering upmarket features in a more attainable and technically advanced package. With its spacious interior and long driving range, the 2025 VW ID.7 is a step forward in the company’s electric vehicle lineup.
