Toyota has announced the reintroduction of the Land Cruiser 70 Series in Japan. This model traces back to 1984 and has been available for purchase in Australia. The significant overhaul of the 70 Series was revealed in August, around the same time Toyota unveiled the new 2024 Land Cruiser for the American market.
In Japan, the 70 Series will be available with one powertrain option, known as the AX grade. It features a six-speed automatic transmission, a first for the 70 Series, paired with a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine. This engine, also utilized in other Toyota vehicles worldwide, has been tuned to produce 201 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and 369 pound-feet of torque from 1,600 to 2,800 rpm.
Additional specifications for the 70 Series include a length of 192 inches, a height of 76 inches, and a wheelbase of 107 inches. It will be offered in five-door, single-cab pickup, and double-cab pickup body styles.
Toyota emphasizes that it has made significant efforts to enhance the reliability, durability, and off-road performance. These features have become trademarks of the Land Cruiser 70 series over the years. Alongside a traditional ladder frame and electronic differential locks, the Land Cruiser 70 integrates a range of driving and braking control systems. These include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Active Traction Control (A-TRC), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), and Downhill Assist Control (DAC). Improved suspension travel is also expected.
Furthermore, the interior now features a 6.7-inch touchscreen displaying an infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, there is an outside mirror attached to the driver’s side fender, adding a retro touch to the vehicle.
Unfortunatley it seems like this rugged truck is only going to be available in RHD, hence Japan and Australia only. Therefore we will definatley not be seeing any in Cambodia.
