Munich Motor Show: Electrified 2025 Mini Countryman Unveiled

The 2025 Mini Countryman has been unveiled, and it is being introduced in electric form before other versions. However, unlike the Cooper, the Countryman has increased in size significantly. It is now 5.1 inches longer, 2.4 inches taller, and 0.8 inch wider compared to its predecessor. The longer wheelbase and wider track width highlight the growth in size, making the new Countryman similar in size to the new Niro.

The new Countryman showcases a combination of ruggedness and high fashion, with colored accents, large wheels, distinctively shaped headlights, and minimalist body lines, creating a stylish and forward-thinking look. Since Mini is introducing electric versions of the Countryman for this generation, it has focused on reducing the coefficient of drag compared to the previous model. The new car’s coefficient of drag has improved from 0.31 to 0.26.

Two electric versions of the Countryman are now being unveiled

The Countryman E and the Countryman SE ALL4. The base E model is equipped with a single electric motor delivering 204 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. This allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 8.6 seconds. The sportier Countryman SE features two electric motors for all-wheel drive, resulting in an output of 313 horsepower and 364 pound-feet of torque. This enables the car to achieve a quick 0-62 mph time of just 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 112 mph.

The single motor E version has a range of 287 miles on the WLTP cycle, while the SE version has a range of 269 miles. Both models are equipped with 64.7 kWh battery packs. However, it is expected that these range figures will be lower in EPA testing. The electric Countryman models offer convenient charging options, with a maximum charge rate of 130 kW, allowing for a 10-80% charge in under 30 minutes. In a home setting, the Countryman supports rapid 22 kW AC charging with compatible hardware.

Gasoline variants of the Countryman will also be available later in the year, including the base model and an upgraded model with the S ALL4 designation. Mini has stated that these models will feature updated and more powerful engines. Additionally, a diesel version will be available in Europe, and a John Cooper Works performance variant is also planned for the future.

When it comes to driving enjoyment

Mini promises that the Countryman will provide an engaging crossover experience. The standard suspension is tuned for sporty driving, and an optional sport Adaptive Suspension is available, which lowers the car by 15 mm. The maximum tire width has been increased to 245mm, offering enhanced grip, especially when paired with high performance summer tires. Wheel options range from 17 to 20 inches in diameter, with the smallest 17-inch option designed for maximum range with its aero optimized design.

The interior of the Mini Countryman features colorful textiles and minimalist design. Like the Cooper, it is equipped with Mini’s new round OLED touch screen for controlling various functions of the car. The Countryman also offers increased space due to its larger size, with improvements in front seat, rear seat, and cargo area space.

Mini has enhanced the driver assistance systems in the new Countryman

Optional extras include adaptive cruise control and lane centering, which assist with steering through highway curves for the first time. The Driving Assistance Professional package enables hands free highway driving at speeds up to 37 mph, similar to many BMW models available today.

Pricing and release details for the electric Countryman models have yet to be determined, but they are expected to be released in the 2025 model year following the completion of 2024 Mini production.
