Ferrari SF90 Fire Risk from Oil Leak Prompts Recall

Ferrari is recalling the SF90 for a fire risk. The sports car produced between 2022 and 2024, due to a potential fire hazard caused by an engine oil leak. The issue stems from a defect in a pipe attached to the turbocharger.

The recall affects vehicles manufactured from November 7, 2022, to September 19, 2023. Ferrari indicates that the engine oil delivery pipe connected to the turbochargers deviates from the brand’s technical specifications due to a notch on its external surface and reduced thickness.

The faulty pipe could result in an oil leak, increasing the risk of a fire. Ferrari has not received any reports of fires, leaks, fatalities, or other incidents associated with this issue. The company discovered the problem during a pre-production review of a new car in July 2023. Owners may notice an engine oil pressure warning light and/or a “limited vehicle performance” message appearing on the instrument cluster due to this problem.

The solution to this problem appears to be relatively straightforward. Ferrari plans to contact affected customers and requests them to bring their vehicles to an authorized dealer. A technician will replace the turbocharger oil delivery pipes with updated versions that do not suffer from the same defect. In the meantime, owners of SF90 Stradale and SF90 Spider models included in the recall are advised not to drive their cars until the necessary repairs have been completed.

This is not the first recall for the SF90 model. Earlier in March 2023, Ferrari issued a separate recall that affected only 13 units of the model equipped with M-sized seats. In these particular vehicles, the deployment of the passenger-side airbag posed a risk of interfering with a child seat installed in the car. However, just as in the current recall, no injuries or fatalities related to this defect were reported. To resolve the issue, the 13 cars were retrofitted with XL-sized seats.

There is no official dealer in Cambodia. However, there is more than one Ferrari SF90 fire risk so if you know the owner pass this information on.
