GT-R Hyper Force EV Concept From Nissan at Tokyo Auto Show

Nissan unveiled the Hyper Force EV Concept at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Show. This could be a hint at the possibility that the next GT-R sports car will be electric. This concept is part of Nissan’s Hyper family of electric concepts. Together they share design elements with previous generations of the GT-R, including the iconic badge. The concept features a jet fighter inspired cockpit, stove-top taillights, a large rear wing, and headlight cutouts reminiscent of the popular R34 generation. The rear fender graphics pay homage to the R30 generation of the Nissan Skyline.

Big Number from EV Powertrain:

Powering the Hyper Force concept is an electric powertrain that delivers a peak power of 1,341 hp or 1,000 kW. It also features an advanced version of the Nissan e-4orce electric torque-vectoring system for all-wheel drive, as well as a solid-state battery. Solid-state batteries have the potential to decrease the weight of electric vehicles and improve their range and charge times. Nissan is currently developing this technology with a target launch around 2028.

The concept incorporates carbon-fiber construction for the wheels and an aerodynamic package engineered by Nissan’s Nismo motorsport department. Components like the hood duct, lip spoiler, front flics, rear wing, and rear diffuser contribute to generating substantial downforce at high speeds. Nissan also introduces a new technology called plasma actuators, which use strategically placed electrodes to charge air particles and manipulate them using an electromagnetic field, enhancing the car’s aerodynamic properties.

A First for Butterfly Doors:

Access to the Hyper Force’s cabin is through butterfly doors, similar to those found in supercars like McLaren. The driver is provided with various screens that display important performance metrics, such as tire and brake temperature, grip levels, and power distribution. The driver can also make adjustments to features like suspension and stabilizers through the screens. The displayed content varies depending on whether the driver has selected GT (grand touring) or R (race) mode.

Additionally, the concept showcases several other technologies, including a self-driving system that utilizes a lidar sensor. A helmet equipped with virtual and augmented reality projection allows the driver to simulate racing on renowned racetracks while the car is parked. The driver can even compete virtually with friends or computer-controlled opponents.

While not explicitly confirming the Hyper Force EV Concept as the next GT-R, Nissan describes it as their vision for a “next-generation high-performance car.” The company previously announced its development of a new platform, the R36, for the next GT-R in 2021. As the current R35 GT-R has been in production since 2009, anticipation has been high for its successor.

The Hyper Force Line Up:

In addition to the Hyper Force, Nissan has unveiled other Hyper EV concepts, including the Hyper Urban crossover, Hyper Tourer minivan, Hyper Punk connectivity crossover, and Hyper Adventure rugged SUV.
