Hyundai Ioniq 5 Shines in Top Gear Test

In general, we have a positive opinion of both the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and its mechanical counterpart, the Kia EV6.
The Ioniq 5 offers a range of up to 303 miles and is available in rear wheel or all wheel drive options. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 also shines with it’s stylish appearance. Our only complaint is that we wish it came in more fun colors. However, the excitement doesn’t end there. An N version of the Ioniq 5 is on its way, boasting a whopping 600 horsepower and an impressive 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds. Needless to say, we are extremely excited about this.

The EV6 GT doesn’t disappoint, but it lacks a sense of stability and control. Additionally, the Goodyear Eagle F1 tires become noisy during aggressive turns or acceleration. Similar to the Kia Stinger, the EV6 GT is a powerful grand touring machine, but not a true sports car…

Ultimately, Kia has created something exciting: the fastest and most powerful car the brand has ever produced. However, it falls short of expectations due to its range and price sacrifices needed to accommodate the high horsepower.

This doesn’t bode well for the performance-focused Ioniq 5 N. There are also concerns about the electric features Hyundai promised the Ioniq 5 N would include. Such as simulated shifts of a dual clutch transmission and fake exhaust notes. Thankfully, these features can be turned off, but our doubts remain.

While it may be some time before we can test drive the Ioniq 5 N ourselves, Top Gear recently had the opportunity to drive a pre production version. From their review, it seems that our concerns were unfounded.
Despite being an electric vehicle and therefore inherently heavy, the Ioniq 5 N reportedly feels lighter than it actually is. Furthermore, it’s described as an absolute joy to drive, even the simulated dual clutch transmission mode proved to be more than just a gimmick. And to top it off, it can drift.

Although it may not rival a Porsche 911 GT3 RS on the race track, it seems that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Shines and is a car that shouldn’t be underestimated. It’s definitely a car worth taking to the track. When a review concludes with “This car has some genuine agility but, best of all, a proper sense of humor,” there’s no doubt that our excitement levels are through the roof. While price and range may still be concerns, we can’t wait for the opportunity to take the Ioniq 5 N for a spin ourselves.
