Review: Land Rover Defender 110 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

It’s a rare feat for a vehicle to achieve enduring popularity across generations and different regions. The Toyota Corolla, the iconic Volkswagen Beetle, and the Land Rover Defender are a few examples of such vehicles. The Land Rover Defender, in particular, has a rich history that dates back to the Second World War. It was created as the British answer to the Willys Jeep. Designed to conquer all types of terrain and meet a wide range of needs.

The Defender has evolved over the years, with the 1980s seeing the introduction of the Defender featuring modern engineering while retaining its off road capabilities. Even today, the Defender is still used in civil service, with both the army and police force.

A Celebration of Time:

To celebrate its 75th anniversary, Land Rover has launched the Defender 110 75th Anniversary Limited Edition. This special model paying homage to its rich history while incorporating modern features. This limited edition model is finished in a vintage shade of Grasmere Green. This heritage colour capturing the spirit of the Defender in a charming and tasteful way.

In terms of design, the Defender embraces a contemporary and rugged aesthetic that is a departure from the opulent visual concept of the Range Rover lineup. It features interesting design elements such as chequer plates on the bonnet, reminiscing of the original “Landie,” and a full size spare tire mounted on the tailgate. The retro touches are complemented by modern amenities such as an 11.4 inch Pivi Pro infotainment system display and a fully digital 12.3 inch instrument cluster.

The interior of the Defender is characterized by its functionality. The main focus on providing ample space, comfort, and robustness to withstand extreme conditions. The vehicle is equipped with features like four zone climate control, a sliding panoramic glass roof, and a generous cargo space of up to 1,875 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Off Road and Performance:

When it comes to performance, the Defender shines both on smooth tarmac and off-road. It offers a powerful engine with 394 hp, ensuring a smooth and effortless drive on the motorway. The air suspension system keeps it stable and composed even on hilly terrains and elevations. Off-road, the Defender excels in traversing through challenging environments, thanks to features such as Terrain Response. Other benefits include it’s Goodyear Wrangler tires, and 3D surround cameras.

While the positioning of the central locking buttons may be a small point of contention, the Defender offers a lot of safety features. These include six airbags, a rear collision monitor, and dynamic cruise control.

Although it may not be the most fuel efficient SUV, the Land Rover Defender remains a benchmark in its class. Offering a perfect balance of off road prowess and luxury. The Defender 110 75th Anniversary model is powered by a turbocharged inline 6 mild hybrid engine, providing excellent performance and capabilities.

All in all, the Land Rover Defender continues to defend its title as a true blue off roader. It offers an exceptional blend of luxury and robustness others can’t match. With its rich history and modern interpretations, it is poised to continue its legacy for years to come.
