Photgraphic Evidence: What You Missed at Goodwood Revival 2023

The Goodwood Revival is a unique and exceptional event that spans a full weekend, hosting vintage car races exclusively for vehicles manufactured before 1970. While there are other similar events worldwide, none compare to the immersive and multi-faceted experience offered by Goodwood Revival 2023.

One distinctive aspect of Goodwood Revival is the emphasis on dressing up in period clothing from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Attendees are strongly encouraged to adhere to a strict dress code when entering the paddock area. This creates an authentic atmosphere that complements the vintage cars and the meticulously restored paddocks, grandstands, and other facilities of the Goodwood circuit. Although the dress code was somewhat relaxed this year due to extreme heat, maintaining the overall atmosphere was still important. Those who deviated from the dress code were akin to seeing an anachronism, like a Starbucks cup in a scene from “Game of Thrones.”

For a visual representation of the event, I have included some photos below, captured by former Autoblog editor Reese Counts and other Goodwood attendees.

Another attraction of Goodwood Revival is the expansive carnival-like area that houses vintage-looking rides and various boutiques. Located outside the track, this area alone could captivate visitors for an entire day, with its wide range of shopping and entertainment options. However, crossing over to the circuit area reveals even more shops, food and drink stalls, race car paddocks, and of course, the track itself.

In an homage to the circuit’s history, Goodwood Revival features airplanes as well. While there may be fewer planes than in previous years, they remain a notable and cool highlight. The Goodwood circuit originated as a perimeter road encircling the World War II airfield RAF Westhampnett.

What sets Goodwood Revival apart is its appeal to the entire family. It is not merely a gathering of older individuals idly sitting in lawn chairs. Women and children, elegantly dressed in vintage attire, including babies in vintage prams, are a common sight at this event. Furthermore, Goodwood Revival is not exclusively for the extremely wealthy, although they certainly make their presence known due to the substantial investment required for vintage racing. Ticket prices for adults started at a reasonable 67 pounds this year, with half-price tickets available for young people aged 13 to 21, and free admission for children under 12. Compared to the exorbitant costs charged by Disney parks, Goodwood Revival offers a relatively affordable experience. However, for those willing to spend more, there are options such as group suites and The Mess, a fully immersive re-imagination of RAF Westhampnett’s officers’ mess.

Finally, because words alone do not do justice to the event, I have included some interesting photographs from Goodwood Revival 2023, taken by P.A (unless otherwise noted) for your viewing pleasure.
