VW, Audi and Porsche to adopt Tesla’s NACS Charge port technology

The Volkswagen Group has announced that several of its brands will transition to Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) port in North America by the year 2025. With Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche to adopt Tesla’s NACS charging ports. This move will allow them to charge on Tesla Superchargers. However, smaller brands such as Bentley, Lamborghini, and Bugatti were not mentioned in the announcement.

The move by the VW Group represents a significant shift from the Combined Charging System port to the NACS. While other major automakers like Stellantis and Mazda have yet to commit to the NACS, the majority of EV-selling automakers have endorsed this charging port as the future standard. Volkswagen is also looking into adapter solutions for current and future electric vehicles that will be sold before 2025.

Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s senior director of charging, expressed her excitement over the VW Group’s commitment to the NACS, noting that almost every major automotive manufacturer is now onboard with the shared vision of improving charging experiences for EV drivers. This marks the beginning of an industry-wide effort to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

Like other brands making the transition to NACS, this move will grant owners of certain VW Group EVs access to over 15,000 Superchargers. Additionally, Scout Motors plans to design its new vehicles with the NACS port as a standard feature from the outset, effectively phasing out the CCS port by 2025.

This is a significant change of direction for the German car maker with Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche to adopt Tesla’s NACS facilities.

It will also further complicate cars coming to Cambodia as most unofficial imports come from the USA with official cars coming with EU Standards.
